The citizen petition gatherers submitted over 12,000 signatures to the county clerk last week. This was in support of the proposed ballot measure forcing clackamas county to not spend any taxpayer funds or staff time on light rail without a public vote.
The chief Petitioner made a statement to the Oregonian. "They were easy to get," Knapp said. "People are mad ... that we don't have the right to vote on high-density housing and light rail. The bottom line is debt. People want out of debt. Clackamas County keeps putting debt on us without a vote of the people."
Mary Olson on the Lake Oswego City Council is also one of the petitioners.
The Oregonians article can be found at: Anti-Light Rail Petition. One local blogger continues to blog on the issue claiming the "Clackastani Rebels" continue to revolt over the issue of spending on light rail and high density urban development. The latest post can be found at: Clackastani Rebels.
It seems residents across the area are not only organized but actively opposing spending when they have not voted on projects.
